Bush Cooking Competitions


Once again, everyone was invited to enter a delicious dish, which must be cooked using traditional bush methods.  Categories included  JUNIOR (Aged 10 -16 years) - ENTRÉE, MAIN and DESSERT. This year our Overall winner was Jodie Chamen from Condobolin for her Coolabah Coulibac (Barramundi Fish wrapped in Puff Pastry) Jodie was awarded with a TBTD engraved camp oven & $500 Cash, there were also great prizes for 1st & 2nd place in each category.

 

FREE Taste Testing

The talented teams from Northparkes Mines battled it out again to produce the tastiest treats yet for us  to sample. All cooked in the traditional way of course, these delights were available to taste for FREE. Was it the Kangaroo Balls, Crocodile, Beef Caserole and Kangaroo stew.

 

Celebrity Chef

2015 saw Michelle Southan share her extensive knowledge with us, hosting our very popular Cooking Demonstrations!

With over 20 years experience in food publishing and media as a food writer and editor. Her experience extends from many of Australia’s leading publications such as Australian Good Taste, Family Circle, Australian’s Women’s Weekly and the Sunday Telegraph. Michelle is the Food Director of the fabulous Taste.com.au food liftout.

Michelle delighted the crowd with her talent and passion for cooking, she believes that everyone has a great cook inside them - they just need a clever recipe, fresh quality seasonal ingredients and to have fun. Michelle enjoys offering easy full-proof recipes that readers can create from easily accessible ingredients. Michelle is a highly sought-after presenter for food shows, radio and TV, and loves to share her tips and expertise.

Special Guest  Adam Harvey

Glenn Skarratt and Simon Watts are a guitar and violin duo Skarratt and Watts. Playing their own blend of folk, blues and Irish music around Sydney since 2008, visitors were enjoying their performances throughout the day.

School Students and Local Bands kept the crowd entertained throughout the day and evening
 

Competitions and Displays

Billy boiling and the bushman's relay is always a favourite and this year was no different. Boyd Aveyard put on an amazing display in our dog jumping competition and spectators enjoyed our new sheep shearing and whip cracking demonstrations they were a real treat for visitors to the bush who would not otherwise   experience country life . These competitions and demonstrations ran throughout the afternoon and were enjoyed by the spectators.

 

Fun and Games for the Kids in The FREE Kid’s Corner.

This years activities included FREE stage coach rides throughout the day. The Junior bush chef competition, gold panning, the bush Olympics,  face painting, A jumping castle and ball pit and much more...


Food and market stalls

Our market stalls were fully booked and we were literally squeezing newcomers in. There was food stalls, craft stalls, fresh local produce, clothing, jewellery and hand made wares.
